WELCOME to the Northern Cross, the independent newspaper for people of the Christian faith in North East England, in particular the Catholic Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle. 


The Cross, launched in January 1956, is published on the weekend of the first Sunday of the month. It is sold in more than 150 parishes across the region. This website provides digital copies of every issue of the Northern Cross, page by page, since the site's 2014 launch.

The Directors of Carmel Education Trust would like to invite applications from Deputy Headteachers and existing Headteachers to the role of Head of School at two primary schools within the Trust:  Holy Family RC Primary School, Darlington and St Gregory’s Catholic Academy, Stockton.  This is an exciting time to join Carmel Education Trust and an opportunity to contribute to our Leadership Team as we review and restructure leadership and governance across the Trust. 

We would welcome applications from candidates interested in either or both Schools and in addition, there may be an opportunity for an Executive Headteacher role within our revised leadership model.

We seek colleagues who are looking for a long-term opportunity and can bring stability and direction to the schools. We promote high standards in terms of teaching and learning, behaviour and achievement. We educate our children in the spirit of the Gospel values and the traditions of the Catholic Church, nurturing the talents, virtues and potential of each individual – both pupils and staff.
